From total novice to skilled archer
Our ten-week basic training courses are designed to teach beginners everything they need to become a competent archer.
Bows and arrows are provided. Friendly coaches will instruct you in:
safety and etiquette on the archery range
use of a longbow to competent standard
the history of archers from medieval England to the present day - including a chance to try on some armour!
Every training course ends with a bang, as we take you outdoors to shoot a volley of flaming arrows into the night sky - a truly impressive experience that you will remember forever. Our courses are the perfect gift for someone who loves history, the outdoors or simply trying new things!
We're always happy for anyone to come along for a taster session to see if this is the new hobby you are looking for, so drop us a line to arrange a visit and we'll show you around and let you try out a bow.
All courses are run on a Wednesday evening:
5-6pm for Juniors (10 - 17 years old) and Parent/Guardian courses
5-7pm for the adult courses.
We know you live busy lives, so if you miss a week for whatever reason, it will not count against your 10 weeks: you can learn at your own pace.
Our head coach is a medieval expert who has been hired by the Mary Rose Trust, National Trust and schools and groups around the country for his lively, funny and thoroughly interesting talks on medieval history. We also offer a practical coures in traditional fletching over 10 weeks, which teaches you everything you need to know about arrowmaking. The cost of the course also includes all the materials you need to make a set of six shooting-quality arrows for you to keep.
The fletching course can be run at a number of times and various days to suit: contact us to discuss.
